Where there is poverty, there is suffering. And where there is suffering, it is the children who are affected most. A lack of access to nutritious food and clean water can cause malnutrition, stunted growth, or even death.

Beatriz’s story: Guatemala

At 3 months old, Beatriz should have been gaining weight and developing steadily toward a healthy childhood. Instead, she weighed only 4 pounds, and her health was rapidly declining. Beatriz was diagnosed with severe acute malnutrition.

Beatriz has seven older brothers and sisters, and her parents have trouble providing for their large family. All 10 of them live in a small, mud home with a tin roof. Although they try to give their children a good life, Beatriz’s parents struggle against poverty to provide basic necessities such as clean water and nutritious food. And poverty almost took the life of their youngest child.

But your support saved Beatriz’s life! Thanks to you, she received emergency medical care and essential nutrients that will give her another chance at life.

After just a few months at the Rescue Center, Beatriz weighed 8 pounds and was healthy enough to return home to her family. Her health continues to improve as she approaches her first birthday. Edith’s story: Uganda

When Edith was carried through the doors of the Rescue Center, the tiny 3-year-old weighed only 17 pounds and was severely malnourished.

Edith, her siblings and their mother are completely on their own. When the father discovered that Edith’s mother was HIV-positive, he abandoned the family. This made it nearly impossible for Edith’s mother to provide for her children’s most basic needs. They had little hope for the future. And little Edith was reeling toward starvation.

But you saw Edith and her family. She was rescued that day, and thanks to your support, she continues to receive the love and care she needs today. Edith is now 7 years old and weighs 43 pounds. She is thriving, and it is all because of your compassion.
